The first work amongst his digital prints that established Rana’s much acclaimed aesthetics negotiates with contradictory realities. An image from a historic Mughal portrait is composed of commercial hoardings with diverse advertisements. Issues such as the craft of painting, technique of digital print, art of traditional Indian miniature and ‘commercial’ visuals of publicity hoardings are invoked in this work by twisting the roles and relevance of these concepts and practices.
