RED CARPET 1 | 2007

PRINT + DIASEC | 116 X 87 INCHES

On one hand, this work contradicts Western perceptions of Eastern art, by being digitally-generated and not handmade; it plays upon these expectations by using the imagery of an intricately crafted Persian carpet. On the other hand, it re-appropriates traditional Eastern aesthetic principles by picturing time-based subject matter on a flat surface. These formal aspects merge with the poignant subject matter of the slaughterhouse, to comment on violence, death, and existence.
